Haunting Memories?

NASA has announced the grounding of its space-shuttle fleet after large pieces of insulating foam broke off the external fuel tank of the shuttle "Discovery" during its launch this week. The incident was hauntingly similar to the problem that doomed the "Columbia" 2 1/2 years ago. The U.S. space agency says the seven "Discovery" astronauts are not in danger, as the debris does not seem to have damaged the ship. More

Yikes!! after two years of not sending manned missions one would hope that they've come up with safer equipment, but apparently this a similiar problem thats plagues them for a while. I wonder if they would get to the point of scrapping the current shuttles all together to try come up with a new design of spacecraft, one that could potentially be safer/sturdier.
